A Compelling Message

I recently pulled one of my many bibles down from one of the shelves in my office and came across something I had written in the back. I do not remember when I put this in there but it stirred me once again as I read the words of this famous quote from Sir Francis Drake written in 1577:

Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.

We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.

Great post. In the second stanza when it talks about having "fallen in love with life" and allowed our vision of the New Heaven to grow dim is so powerful. Sometimes I wonder if we really long for Heaven like we should. Are we truly watching for His return. I hope and pray we are because that is who the Lord is coming back for.
Didn't mean to preach.
Love you guys.

Great post. I have to echo Sis Hurst. All that really matters is to stay close to God and keep that first love.
